Larger role for state?

I dont claim to have read George Orwell's works such as “1984” and “Animal Farm” in their entirety! But from the events and movements of now- in India as well as abroad( school killings in America)- We appear to be pressing the present day governments to stretch as well as stiffen the legal environment and legal code to punish the culprits who have perpetrated heinous crimes. In the process we are asking for a larger role for the State to control our day to day movements. George Orwell in his imagination wrote at length about the increasing role of State and its various manifestations in 1984 and Animal Farm. “Big brother is watching you” is the famous quotation that we all come across- is from “1984”. Later there were many books/novels and movies, which are based on similar subject(s). So the writing on the wall is very clear- We want a larger role for the state! This is at a time when the UK government sold of its Scotland Yard building, one of the London’s famous landmarks! Hope larger role for the State leads to longer peace in the world!
